Loud Boos For A-Rod From Home Crowd

Alex Rodriguez grounded out weakly to start the bottom of the 7th inning and an impatient Yankee Stadium crowd let its displeasure be known. Rodriguez was loudly booed off the field as he trotted to the dugout. The groundout made A-Rod 0-3 on the night. He later walked during a 9th-inning rally that saw the Yankees come up short and lose to the Nationals, 3-2. Rodriguez's batting average fell to .219 on the season but he does have 9 homeruns and an OPS of .852, which is well above average though more than 100 points below his career mark.

Contreras Gives White Sox Eight Innings

Jose Contreras returned to the White Sox on Monday night and pitched eight strong innings against the Tigers. Contreras started 0-5 this year, and was sent to Triple-A to work on his pitches. "I needed to work on my pitches. I needed to work on my location and the only place to do it was Triple-A. I decided to go down to Triple-A and work on stuff," Contreras said. "Obviously I came back and used it today and it paid off with a great outing." Contreras pitched eight shutout innings, allowing just one hit and recording three strikeouts. "Getting a win after having five losses, I feel like I contributed, like I am giving something back to the team," Contreras said.
